Xiamen’s burgeoning cultural scene, seaside locale, and consistently warm and pleasant climate all make this one of China’s most liveable (and eminently visitable) cities. Take advantage of the latter two attributes by spending a sun-kissed day at sea. Marine-minded guests may prefer to chart their own course by renting a sailboat (charged by the hour) for a DIY spin around the harbor. But if you’re looking to really splash out—and leave the navigating to a hired captain—consider casting off for a few hours in one of Xiamen Huayi Yacht Company’s private yachts. The luxury charter boats range in size and can host anywhere from 6 to 30 guests; all come staffed with a dedicated crew—including a chef, who will cook up a fantastic Chinese-style barbecue feast, and a bartender to ply your floating party with beer, wine, and cocktails. Pop the bubbly, kick back, and admire the knockout views of Xiamen’s glittering bay, and the soaring bridges that link this idyllic island to the mainland.
Wuyuanwan Marina is 30 to 40 minutes from Conrad Xiamen by taxi, and is set within Swan Lake Wetlands, where some areas are closed for construction, but rest assured the marina itself is open. If possible, retain your driver for the return trip, as taxis are sparse in this area. At the marina you can rent sailboats by the hour to pilot yourself, or charter a private yacht (complete with captain and crew) through the well-regarded Xiamen Huayi Yacht Company. Note that you’ll need to book the charter at least four hours in advance. For sailboat rentals, it’s wise to reserve ahead on weekends. The Conrad concierge can help you arrange either.
